Our Application Process - What to Expect
Now that you’ve made the decision to apply, here are some helpful details of what you can expect throughout our recruitment process.
We pride ourselves on providing a very clear, personalised and transparent recruitment experience. Our objective is to not only find out about what you can bring to TAL but to provide you with an opportunity to measure if our business is right for you.
At TAL, we offer a diverse range of career opportunities and therefore our recruitment process will often be tailored to specific types of roles. You can expect our recruitment process to incorporate all, one, or many of the following:
- Phone Interview
- Competency Based Interviews
- Skill, ability and personality assessments
- Reference checking – previous work experience
- Background/Verification checks (Probity)
Phone Interview
Once you have submitted your application you will receive an email notification letting you know that we have received your application. Soon after that you may receive a call from a member of our Talent & Careers team to discuss the opportunity you have applied for. The purpose of this call is to find out more about your interest, skills and experience and to provide you with a preliminary opportunity to ask a little more about the role you have expressed interest in.
Face to Face Interviews
At TAL we utilise “Behavioural” or “Competency” based interview techniques which means that our interview questions link directly to the competencies required to perform the role that you have applied for. Through the interview process we develop an understanding of your previous experience and performance and gather a good, well rounded view of your current capability and fit for the role.
Typically you will be required to come in for around 3 interviews – first meeting will often be with a member of our Talent & Careers team, then the direct hiring manager and possibly a more senior manager or peer.
Assessments
As a preferred candidate, after you have moved through the interview process, you will then be required to complete a range of assessments to help round out our view and understanding of you. These assessments are specifically matched to the requirements of the role you have applied for and form an important part of your selection process. Assessments can cover Aptitude, Cognitive Ability, Behavioural Profile and Emotional Intelligence.
Reference Checking
As a preferred candidate we will then complete an employment reference check on you before an offer is made. You will be asked to provide the contact details for suitable referees toward the end of the interview process and your referees will never be contacted without your prior permission.
Background / Verification Checks
TAL operates within an industry that is highly regulated. In accordance with Anti Money Laundering (AML) legislation and good risk management practice, we do require that some candidates (role based) have a Probity Check completed before an offer can be made. If this requirement applies to the role you have applied for then you will be made aware of this need at the very beginning of the selection process.
It’s important that we make the best and most well informed selection decisions that we can. Our process sounds like it may take a long time to work through but in almost all cases it actually moves quite quickly…because we know that the best candidates don’t wait around for long.
If you would like further information about any of the above please do not hesitate to contact us.
