TAL strengthens mental health approach with key relationships

2017 -

TAL, Australia’s leading life insurance specialist, has today announced that it has engaged the services and expertise of the Black Dog Institute and the University of Sydney as part of its commitment to improving mental health outcomes in the community.

The two new working relationships are in line with TAL’s wider health strategy, which aims to expand TAL’s ability to understand, manage and support the mental, physical and financial health of its customers and community.

TAL Head of Mental Health, Glenn Baird, said TAL was delighted to be working with organisations that are leading the way in identifying, preventing and treating mental health conditions in Australia.

“Mental health is an important focus for TAL and one of the top three reasons our customers claimed in 2016. It’s essential that we have the right skills and expertise to inform our product development and practices, reflect evolving clinical best practice, and give our customers the very best support we can.

“The Black Dog Institute and the University of Sydney are making significant contributions to enabling mentally healthier lives, and we look forward to drawing on their expertise to further enhance TAL’s approach to mental health,” Mr Baird said.

Through the partnership with the Black Dog Institute, TAL will be able to provide customers with access to evidence-based mental health resources.

The partnership with the University of Sydney will explore the alternative risk predictors of mental health disorders.

Mr Baird said, “The collaboration between TAL’s Health Services Team, academia and subject matter experts will further our commitment to mental health and contribute to supporting the wellbeing of Australians.”

TAL’s relationships with the Black Dog Institute and the University of Sydney follow on from TAL’s partnership with Professor Neil Greenberg in June 2017 and appointment of Glenn Baird to the newly created role of Head of Mental Health in July 2017.
